I just wanted to let you know I’ve used your tangerine butter and the rose oil and normally my face is really red and burns and hurts, but I used it last night and when I got up this morning my face felt so nice. I live in coastal New England we have particularly harsh winters that are famous for cold winds that leave your face chapped and worn like old leather. I have used both the Jasmine Face Butter and the Lavender Face Butter to keep my face moisturized and to combat the dry skin resulting from the cold. Haven't had a herpes (cold sore) in years, but broke out last weekend with a b i g one on upper right lip. Put Abreve on it and ended up the next morning with a huge mess. Washed the lip with diluted hydrogen peroxide and used Monarda Salve you sent me last Christmas. This has been the quickest I've ever had one heal. And, no cracking & bleeding. I bought this after my friend found you guys in the middle of nowhere. I LOVE it. I also bought the facial bliss face butter and they are the best things. I've never struggled with acne before even in my teens, but now in my 20s I've been having problems with stress acne and this has just done wonders. I even use it on my English Bulldogs nose to keep it moist and because of the smell he loves it. I heard about oil cleansing about a year ago but never tried it. I don't know why, I guess I thought "what if my face gets worse?!". I've struggled with blemishes since having children, and I tend to have an oilier complexion anyway. I've started getting lines on my forehead, etc. I have these little white spots underneath my eyes. I have tried about every skin care line and company that promises to make it better and it didn't...and it was expensive. I always think natural is better because God gave us these herbs and plants and they should be able work better than man made chemical products. With that said, I've been using the cleanser and facial butter for 1-2 weeks and have noticed such a difference. The white spots are decreasing, my face does not get oily, my blemishes are better and my skin feels really good. The butter is not heavy feeling or looking and the smells of them all are wonderful. I met Jamie at a Baker Creek festival back a few months ago. I absolutely HAD to try her Jasmine face cream. For the first time I had a lotion that fulfilled the needs of my patchy combination skin and didn't make me feel greasy or top heavy. That same day my sister purchased some of Jamie's Dry Itchy Skin Salve for a chronic red itchy rash around her nose that she has had for several years. My sister too saw improvement as she never had with any product--herbal or otherwise. The redness lightened and the sensitivity all but disappeared before she ran out. My most recent success comes with Jamie's face butter. It has a lovely lavender scent that sits nicely without overpowering my sensitive nostrils. I decided to just use it everywhere as all of my skin tends to be rather dry. I really can't get over your Skin Butter. Beginning in my mid-20's, as soon as the air got cold and dry, it was all I could do to keep the area right above my eyebrows and especially right between them from getting dry and flaky. We just had our first weed walk with Jamie Jackson. I told everyone I would report back afterwards to let you know how it went. We had a great time with Jamie today. For the last 25 years I have had rough, scaley spots and a few larger lesions on my arms and face and even a couple on top of my head. I just started using Jaime's MissouriHerb's "Dry Itchy Skin Salve" and I LOVE it!!!
I have a hot spot on my chest that has been bothering me for years. It itches much of the time, but the skin is thin there, so I don't want to scratch because I don't want to damage the tissue. I've tried Benedryl, oatmeal balm, Calamine, all types of hypoallergenic lotions, and steroid creams (one was prescription strength, even!). They all seemed to work for a little while (meaning maybe an hour, most a few minutes), but they didn't work long term. I decided to try Jamie's itch salve as a last ditch effort. I purchased some salve for arthritis last Sunday (ed note, 2 days ago) in Mansfield. I apply it at night to my hands before I go to bed. I want to tell you that I can already tell the difference in my hands when I wake up in the morning. My hands are not as stiff and tingling as they have been for a long time. I just love the Plantain Salve! I carry a purse-size "sampler" with me all the time in my purse and my big jar stays on my desk. This is truly one of the best and versatile products I have ever come across. I work with my hands, knitting, crocheting, cleaning services, housework, garden and yard work. It all takes its toll. I use it for dry skin, torn cuticles, any kind of cut, scrape or scratch. It helps it heal so fast. It is also wonderful to take the itch out of chigger, mosquito and flea bites. Last March I took classes to become certified in permaculture design. I had done some organic gardening in my backyard, and for the last two years volunteered at a large community organic garden, but I wanted to learn more. And I did. I learned so much in the permaculture certification classes that I thought I was quite possibly exposed to every permaculture idea that exists.
Shortly after becoming certified, like-minded people started to come my way. My son, who lives in the Mark Twain Forest, introduced me to his neighbors, Jamie and Jeffery. He took me to visit their homestead, Falcon Creek Farm….Jamie graciously took time out of her busy day to give me a thirty-minute tour of a few of their 30 acres (zones 1, 2, 3, and 4 in permaculture jargon). I was excited to see dozens of the permaculture ideas I had recently learned put into practice, including rows of hugelkultur beds, natural pest control through companion planting, expanding food forests of grapes; fruit trees, and nut trees surrounded by supporting perennial tree guilds, and even a ginkgo biloba tree. They have built no-till raised gardens and an earth contact home with an earthen floor and living roof for Jeffery's mother. Large solar panels supply all their needed power and drinking water from the spring is pumped up the hill with a solar pump. I remember wishing I had brought my notebook as I was given more new information in 30 minutes than I could remember. The family is now completely off the grid and are in the process of building another passive solar earth-sheltered house with a green roof for themselves. Currently the soil is being built up with rye and clover and will eventually be transitioned to sedum, strawberries and chives.
Two people who came from the work background of a software tester and a musician have accomplished all of this within less than three years. Both Jeffrey and Jamie are totally self-taught, mostly through books and videos. In addition to these many accomplishments, Jamie shares all she's learned (a lot through trial-and-error) on a beautiful blog. She documents the experiences of their "journey to create an intentionally simple and self-sustaining homestead in Missouri." Jamie hopes to someday be able to share all her knowledge with anyone who is interested in learning a new way of living through hands-on teaching at their homestead.
